Course Description:

On the range there are always a few meters between you and the target. In a real assault that distance is often missing. Dynamic Pistol 4 teaches you to use your pistol when the attacker is within arm's reach and there is neither time nor space for conventional shooting techniques.

Dynamic Pistol 4 is the final course of our pistol shooting series, focused on close-range self-defense. You will draw from concealed carry, shoot at contact distance, create distance from an attacker and retain your weapon when someone tries to take it from you. You will learn to use your gun during an edged-weapon assault or a blunt object attack, to fight and shoot from the ground after being taken down, and to strike with your pistol in close-quarters confrontation. You will also shoot after physical exertion, with your heart pounding and your hands shaking.

At the end you put everything to the test in force-on-force scenarios with FX Simunition training weapons, a marking-cartridge system, against a live opponent instead of a paper target. We never have more than 8 students per instructor, so everyone gets real attention and we correct mistakes carefully.

Who Is This Course For:

For graduates of Dynamic Pistol 1 to 3 who carry a gun for self-defense and want to be ready for a situation where everything happens within a few seconds at the distance of a single step. The course is physically more demanding than the previous levels, so expect physical contact and exertion.

What You Will Learn:

After the course you can safely draw from concealed carry and shoot at contact distance. You know how to create distance during an assault and when to use your gun against an attacker armed with a knife or another dangerous object. You can retain your weapon when someone tries to disarm you and strike with your pistol when there is no room to shoot. When you are taken to the ground, you can defend yourself and engage the attacker from the ground. And you have experienced how you shoot after physical exertion, in scenarios against a real opponent.

Introduction of instructors, safety instructions, introduction to self-defense shooting techniques, initial test (survey and evaluation of the students' knowledge and habits, correcting mistakes and unifying weapon handling and procedures), short review of the skills from the Dynamic Pistol 3 course, followed by concealed carry draw, contact-distance shooting, creating distance in self-defense, use of the weapon during edged-weapon assaults and blunt object attacks, weapon retention, striking with the pistol in close-quarters confrontation, ground fighting and shooting from the ground after a takedown, and shooting under physical exhaustion in force-on-force scenarios with our FX Simunition training weapons.

Required Equipment:

Comfortable civilian or tactical clothing and solid outdoor or sports shoes (both suited to the current weather and outdoor temperatures), a belt, a high-quality and safe hard holster worn on the strong side and covering the trigger guard (preferably kydex), a magazine pouch, shooting glasses and hearing protection (earmuffs, earplugs, etc.). If you intend to shoot ammunition other than the common standard 9 mm Luger or .45 ACP on this course, please also bring 5 dummy rounds for dry practice and weapon handling.

Nylon or similar soft holsters, whether inside or outside the waistband, as well as shoulder holsters, are very dangerous for the user both in training and in real-life carry. Please avoid wearing them on the course and in real life. We can rent you high-quality kydex holsters by RH Holsters for Glock 17/19/26/43, Walther PDP/PPQ/PPS/Creed, H&K SFP9 and S&W MP9 pistols, together with a magazine pouch, for a small fee. Appendix carry holsters, worn at the front of the waistband, are allowed provided they meet the definition of a high-quality and safe hard holster, preferably kydex, worn on the strong side and covering the trigger guard.

Weapon:

Semi-automatic pistol with two magazines and at least 300 rounds. For subcompact pistols (for example G43/42) we recommend at least 3 magazines.

If you do not own a gun or would like to try a different one, we can provide a pistol with holsters, ammunition and other accessories for your chosen course date. Just click on the course date and you will see a full list of weapons available for that date. In the first section you will find complete packages, which always include a pistol with two magazines, kydex pistol and magazine holsters, eye and ear protection and the number of rounds needed for the course. If you bring your own factory ammunition, you can choose to rent the gun only. The full list of rental guns, along with the option to order ammunition, holsters or protective equipment separately, can be found in the sections below.

Firearms and the Law:

You do not need a firearms license, background check or criminal record extract to attend this course. Our instructor will hand you the weapon and you will train with it under his constant supervision. Czech law sets no fixed minimum age, but a minor participant must be reasonably mature, both mentally and physically. We do not recommend registering children under 15 for a course this intensive.

There is no restriction on the barrel length of semi-automatic rifles, and high-capacity magazines are allowed. Suppressors and weapon-mounted lasers and lights are legal in the Czech Republic.

If you hold a European Firearms Pass (EFP) with your firearm listed in it, you may temporarily bring it to the Czech Republic and use it for training. Under Czech law it is enough to prove the purpose of your visit, for example with your course booking or another document confirming the reason for your trip. An official invitation is not required by law. The EFP also covers carrying an amount of ammunition that matches the purpose of the trip, for example for a competition or training. Please note that transit countries or your airline may apply their own limits or requirements. If you plan to travel through several countries or by air, contact us and we will help you prepare any documents you may need, such as an invitation.

Timing:

Class starts at 9:00 am. Please arrive at the range no later than 8:30–8:45 am. The course usually ends around 6:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break during the day.

We run our courses at various locations across the Czech Republic. You will find the exact venue for each date in the calendar, just click on the date. For multi-day courses that use more than one location, all venues are listed there.

Please check the venue carefully before booking. The same course often runs at different locations on different dates. Every now and then a student books a date expecting it to be at our home base, the Oleško shooting range, only to find out on the day that the course is taking place in Moravia, some 300 km away. To avoid this, always click on the date before booking and check where that particular date takes place.

Language:

Czech with English translation available.

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation is not included in the course fee, each participant arranges and pays for it themselves. There is a 30-minute lunch break, so bring food that doesn't need cooking or ordering, such as an Adventure Menu type ration, an MRE or food from home, and enough to drink for the whole day.

Where to Go Next:

If you want to take close combat further, continue with Hand to Hand Combat and Gun Retention, which goes deep into fighting at close range and retaining your weapon. The Expandable Baton course teaches you to work with a telescopic baton, and at Self-defense Scenarios you will test your defensive skills in more scenarios. And since a close-range fight for your life often takes place inside a building, it also makes sense to continue with Home Defense or one of our CQB courses.
