Course Description:

The casualty keeps bleeding, struggles to breathe or is slipping into shock, even though you've done everything you learned at the CLS course. Combat LifeSaver Advanced prepares you for exactly those situations where the basic procedures aren't enough.

CLS Advanced is a two-day medical course in advanced prehospital care in combat conditions. The procedures follow the current TCCC system (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) and are taught by instructors who know them from their own medical experience in the armed forces. After a short review of the basic course procedures, you will learn hemorrhage control in places where a tourniquet can't be applied, surgical airway, more advanced procedures for torso injuries and shock, and IV and IO vascular access. Then come immobilization, CPR for trauma casualties, treatment of a penetrating eye injury and a detailed casualty assessment.

You will practice the techniques in drills on models and live tissue, and then in a series of scenarios. You don't need to buy any tactical gear, and we provide the training medical supplies.

We never have more than 8 students per instructor, so everyone gets real attention.

Who Is This Course For:

For graduates of the Combat LifeSaver course, whether you are a soldier, a reservist, a member of law enforcement, work for a private security contractor or are a civilian interested in combat medicine. Completing the basic CLS course is required, because this course builds directly on its skills.

What You Will Learn:

After two days you have reviewed the CLS fundamentals and can stop massive bleeding even where a tourniquet won't help. You can perform a surgical airway, handle more advanced procedures for torso injuries and shock, and establish IV or IO vascular access. You can immobilize a casualty, perform CPR, treat a penetrating eye injury and assess the casualty's condition in detail. You have tested all of this on models, live tissue and in scenarios.

Contents:

Review of techniques from the basic CLS course, followed by advanced skills such as junctional hemorrhage control, surgical airway techniques, diagnosis and treatment of torso injuries, shock treatment, intravenous and intraosseous vascular access techniques, immobilization techniques, CPR for trauma patients, treatment of penetrating eye injuries, detailed assessment of the patient's condition.

Required Equipment:

Writing materials, comfortable tactical clothing or a combat uniform and solid outdoor or duty footwear (both suited to the current weather and outdoor temperatures), and if you like, a plate carrier or ballistic vest with gear pouches and AR15 magazine pouches, a helmet or boonie hat, shooting glasses, tactical gloves and an individual training first aid kit. You can of course complete the course in comfortable tactical or civilian clothing without having to buy expensive tactical gear; all you need is protective glasses.

If you would like to try modern ballistic gear, click on your chosen course date and you can rent one of the plate carriers on offer, including ballistic plates, or a top-of-the-line Galvion ballistic helmet.

We will provide you with our training medical supplies. If you have old clothes at home that you're about to throw away, we'd be glad if you brought them to the course. In the scenarios we splash them with fake blood and cut them open during treatment, so you'll be helping us make the training more realistic.

Weapon:

Where the training requires it, we will lend you our inert training replica weapons free of charge.

Medical Courses and the Law:

Czech law does not regulate participation in medical courses in any way. You don't need any permit, and it doesn't matter whether you are a citizen of the Czech Republic, another EU country or a country outside the EU. Czech law sets no fixed minimum age, but a minor participant must be reasonably mature, both mentally and physically. We do not recommend registering children under 15 for a course this intensive.

Timing:

Class starts at 9:00 am. Please arrive at the venue no later than 8:30–8:45 am. The course usually ends around 6:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break during the day.

Venue:

We run our courses at various locations across the Czech Republic. You will find the exact venue for each date in the calendar, just click on the date. For multi-day courses that use more than one location, all venues are listed there.

Please check the venue carefully before booking. The same course often runs at different locations on different dates. Every now and then a student books a date expecting it to be at our home base, the Oleško shooting range, only to find out on the day that the course is taking place in Moravia, some 300 km away. To avoid this, always click on the date before booking and check where that particular date takes place.

Language:

Czech with English translation available.

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation is not included in the course fee, each participant arranges and pays for it themselves. There is a 30-minute lunch break, so bring food that doesn't need cooking or ordering, such as an Adventure Menu type ration, an MRE or food from home, and enough to drink for the whole day.

Where to Go Next:

If you want to be able to help even without a stocked first aid kit, continue with FATALE, where you will learn to stop bleeding with improvised equipment, triage casualties and prepare a casualty for transport. The civilian counterpart to combat medicine for police officers and EMS personnel is Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, where you will learn how casualty care differs in the individual phases of a response in a civilian tactical environment. You can also put your skills to use at Air Assault, where the team is inserted from a helicopter into scenarios that include medical ones.
