Martin Bartl served with the Police of the Czech Republic from 1994 to 2021. He started in frontline police duty, and from 2000 he was with a riot police unit as a medic, later as its chief medic and medical training lead. In 2009 he became a police training instructor specializing in first aid in tactical environments. In 2020 he was the chief medic of a Czech contingent on an international mission in North Macedonia.
He designed several training programs that the Czech police adopted. His medic training program for riot police units was introduced by a number of regional police headquarters. In 2009 he created the tactical first aid curriculum for police officers, which became part of the nationwide basic training for all new Czech police officers. He later developed tactical first aid training for special units, training for personnel deploying on international missions, and medical training for police instructors.
His training includes the TCCC course of the Czech Armed Forces, a course for Czech airborne unit medics, medic training for police special units at US SWAT School in the United States, the US Army Advanced CLS course in Wiesbaden, and field first aid courses at the Military Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové. He also works with the regional emergency medical service.
His students include members of Czech police SWAT, riot and special riot units, the Presidential Protection Unit, the Protection Service for Constitutional Officials, Customs, and municipal police. Foreign students have included instructors from the German Federal Police and SEK Dortmund, instructors from the Slovak police unit in Trnava, and Reuters journalists before they left for Syria.
