Martin Hřib’s professional career began with the completion of his compulsory military service in the Air Defence Forces. After that, he joined the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic, where he initially served at the Uherské Hradiště Customs Office, administratively subordinate to the Olomouc headquarters. During this period, he worked as a customs inspector and was also involved as a self-defence instructor.
In 2003, he transferred directly to the Operational Deployment Group (SON) of the General Directorate of Customs, where he served for more than twenty years with nationwide responsibility. Throughout his entire service within SON, he remained primarily an active tactical operator, regularly deployed in operations against dangerous offenders, execution of criminal proceedings, and operational search activities.
His service included demanding annual training focused on special operations and tactical interventions. Alongside his direct participation in real-world operations, he gradually assumed additional specialist roles, all of which he performed in parallel with his operational duties in the field.
From 2006, he served as a firearms instructor and weapons specialist within SON. While continuing to participate in operations as a member of the tactical team, he was responsible for developing firearms skills within the unit, conducting specialized training, and providing expert support to the sniper element of SON. He achieved multiple competitive shooting successes, including team victory at the Czech National Championship in sniper rifle shooting.
In 2008, he additionally assumed the role of SON armorer and weapons technician, again while maintaining full operational involvement. His responsibilities included the selection, procurement, maintenance, and management of weapons, ammunition, and tactical equipment. He further expanded his expertise by completing formal gunsmith education, gaining detailed technical insight into firearm design, function, and limitations in operational use.
From 2014, he also served as a material and equipment specialist for SON, participating in the selection and procurement of specialized equipment and vehicles. This role was directly informed by his operational experience and the real requirements of field deployment.
In 2018, he took over the position of SON field team leader. In this role, he led teams during arrests and operational search activities, contributed to tactical decision-making, and was responsible for the safety of team members. Even in this leadership position, he remained actively involved in operational deployments. In addition to his operational service, Martin has long specialized in the technical aspects of firearms, ballistics, and the practical application of weapons in real-world environments. He is an experienced shooter with both handguns and long guns and an instructor in firearms training with strong technical expertise. He also served for four years as a shooting range manager in Olomouc.
