Course Description:

A good shooting instructor doesn't just give commands. He spots a student's mistake, knows how to fix it and explains why the technique is done exactly this way. That is what you learn for a week at Shooting Instructor, and you try it out right away by teaching a group of shooters.

Shooting Instructor is a seven-day course for aspiring and active shooting instructors. It is not primarily about shooting better, but about passing your knowledge and skills on to others. You will cover training methodology and writing lesson plans, selecting and preparing training materials, the habits that let an instructor keep the range safe, and recognizing students' shooting mistakes. You will learn how to bring modern trends and complex drills into your teaching.

Your own teaching sessions are an important part of the course. You teach a group of shooters, and the instructor trainers give you feedback right away, which you then work into your next session. Expect long evenings over your lesson plans, since you prepare each session the day before. The teaching is based on the procedures we use in our Dynamic Pistol and Dynamic Rifle courses.

You shoot both pistol and rifle. If you don't have your own guns, you can add a complete package to your booking for your chosen date. We never have more than 8 students per instructor, so the instructor trainers go through each of your teaching sessions with you in detail.

Who Is This Course For:

The course is for those who want to teach shooting or already do, whether private lessons, their own courses or firearms training in the armed forces or law enforcement. Dynamic Pistol 1 to 3 and Dynamic Rifle 1 to 3 are required, because the teaching is based on their procedures and you will be teaching them to others during the course. Expect a demanding week, with evenings spent preparing your teaching sessions.

What You Will Learn:

After a week you can plan a shooting training session and write a lesson plan for it, and select and prepare training materials. You have ingrained the habits that keep a range safe. You can spot a shooter's mistake, fix it together with him and explain why the technique is done exactly this way. You can bring complex drills into your teaching. And you have taught several sessions to a group of shooters, received feedback from the instructor trainers after each one and know how to put it into practice.

Contents:

Shooting training methodology, writing lesson plans, selecting, sourcing and preparing training materials, the instructor's key habits for maintaining one hundred percent range safety, teaching students to recognize shooting mistakes, bringing modern trends and smart complex drills into your teaching, practice teaching a group of shooters with immediate feedback from designated instructor trainers, putting feedback into practice and much more. Be prepared for long evening hours preparing your own teaching sessions, which you will always present the following day.

Required Equipment:

Comfortable civilian or tactical clothing and solid outdoor or sports shoes (both suited to the current weather and outdoor temperatures), a belt, a high-quality and safe hard holster worn on the strong side and covering the trigger guard (preferably kydex) and spare magazine pouches for both the handgun and the long gun, or a plate carrier or full ballistic protection including a helmet, shooting glasses, hearing protection (earmuffs, earplugs, etc.) and knee pads. Above all, come to the course in clothing and gear that match your everyday carry or work as closely as possible.

If you intend to shoot ammunition other than the common standard 9 mm Luger, .223 Rem, 7.62×39 or .45 ACP on this course, please also bring 5 dummy rounds for dry practice and weapon handling.

Nylon or similar soft holsters, whether inside or outside the waistband, as well as shoulder holsters, are very dangerous for the user both in training and in real-life carry. Please avoid wearing them on the course and in real life. We can rent you high-quality kydex holsters by RH Holsters for Glock 17/19/26/43, Walther PDP/PPQ/PPS/Creed, H&K SFP9 and S&W MP9 pistols, together with a magazine pouch, for a small fee. Appendix carry holsters, worn at the front of the waistband, are allowed provided they meet the definition of a high-quality and safe hard holster, preferably kydex, worn on the strong side and covering the trigger guard.

Weapon:

Semi-automatic pistol and rifle, two magazines for each and at least 500 rounds for each weapon. For subcompact pistols (for example G43/42) we recommend at least 3 magazines.

If you do not own one or both guns or would like to try a different one, we can provide a pistol or rifle with holsters, ammunition and other accessories for your chosen course date. Just click on the course date and you will see a full list of weapons available for that date. In the first section you will find complete packages, which always include a pistol or rifle with two magazines, kydex pistol and magazine holsters, eye and ear protection and the number of rounds needed for the course. If you bring your own factory ammunition, you can choose to rent the gun only. Firearms and the Law:

You do not need a firearms license, background check or criminal record extract to attend this course. Our instructor will hand you the weapon and you will train with it under his constant supervision. Czech law sets no fixed minimum age, but a minor participant must be reasonably mature, both mentally and physically. We do not recommend registering children under 15 for a course this intensive.

There is no restriction on the barrel length of semi-automatic rifles, and high-capacity magazines are allowed. Suppressors and weapon-mounted lasers and lights are legal in the Czech Republic.

If you hold a European Firearms Pass (EFP) with your firearm listed in it, you may temporarily bring it to the Czech Republic and use it for training. Under Czech law it is enough to prove the purpose of your visit, for example with your course booking or another document confirming the reason for your trip. An official invitation is not required by law. The EFP also covers carrying an amount of ammunition that matches the purpose of the trip, for example for a competition or training. Please note that transit countries or your airline may apply their own limits or requirements. If you plan to travel through several countries or by air, contact us and we will help you prepare any documents you may need, such as an invitation.

Timing:

Class starts at 9:00 am. Please arrive at the range no later than 8:30–8:45 am. The course usually ends around 6:00 pm, but be prepared for homework in the form of written lesson plans, which can easily stretch your day until midnight. There is a 30-minute lunch break during the day.

We run our courses at various locations across the Czech Republic. You will find the exact venue for each date in the calendar, just click on the date. For multi-day courses that use more than one location, all venues are listed there.

Please check the venue carefully before booking. The same course often runs at different locations on different dates. Every now and then a student books a date expecting it to be at our home base, the Oleško shooting range, only to find out on the day that the course is taking place in Moravia, some 300 km away. To avoid this, always click on the date before booking and check where that particular date takes place.

Language:

Czech with English translation available.

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation is not included in the course fee, each participant arranges and pays for it themselves. There is a 30-minute lunch break, so bring food that doesn't need cooking or ordering, such as an Adventure Menu type ration, an MRE or food from home, and enough to drink for the whole day.

Where to Go Next:

From the Dynamic series, you still have Dynamic Pistol 4, which adds drawing from concealed carry, shooting at contact distance and weapon retention, and Dynamic Rifle 4, with precise rifle zeroing and shooting out to 300 meters.
