Course Description:

At the range, in the mountains or on the road. A serious injury can happen anywhere, and you may be the first one on the scene. In one day, First Responder teaches you to respond in a way that saves the casualty's life.

First Responder is a one-day medical course in first aid with professional equipment. It is our own course, which takes from tactical medicine only what saves lives in the first few minutes. There is only as much theory as you really need; you spend most of the day on hands-on practice and repetition.

You will learn to quickly check a casualty, including a blood sweep to find bleeding that isn't visible at first glance, and to open the airway with a head tilt. You will stop massive bleeding with direct pressure, a tourniquet and a pressure bandage. Then come CPR and protecting the casualty from hypothermia. You will repeat each procedure several times until you can do it on your own and quickly, and at the end you bring everything together in a scenario.

We never have more than 8 students per instructor, so you practice every procedure yourself and we correct you.

Who Is This Course For:

For anyone who wants to be able to save a life in the first few minutes: shooters, climbers, hikers, athletes and drivers. Above all, for those who are planning to buy or already own a quality IFAK, first aid kit or medical backpack and want to know how to really use it. You don't need any previous medical training or experience.

What You Will Learn:

After the course you can quickly check a casualty and find bleeding that isn't visible at first glance. You can stop massive bleeding with direct pressure, a tourniquet and a pressure bandage, open the airway with a head tilt and perform CPR. You know how to protect a casualty from hypothermia. And you have practiced it so many times that you can do it under stress, and tested it in a final scenario.

First Responder, TECC or CLS?

First Responder is a one-day foundation for anyone who wants to quickly master life-saving procedures with professional equipment. Tactical Emergency Casualty Care is a two-day course for police officers, EMS personnel and firefighters. It adds wound packing, treating chest injuries with a chest seal, algorithm-based casualty assessment, shock treatment and procedures for the individual phases of a response. Combat LifeSaver is its military counterpart, with an extra day devoted to Care Under Fire.

Contents:

Casualty check (blood sweep), opening the airway with a head tilt, massive hemorrhage control, direct pressure on the wound, tourniquet, pressure bandage, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hypothermia prevention, repeated drills, final scenario.

Required Equipment:

Writing materials, comfortable clothing and footwear suited to the current weather and outdoor temperatures.

We will provide you with our training medical supplies. If you have old clothes at home that you're about to throw away, we'd be glad if you brought them to the course. In the scenarios we splash them with fake blood and cut them open during treatment, so you'll be helping us make the training more realistic.

Medical Courses and the Law:

Czech law does not regulate participation in medical courses in any way. You don't need any permit, and it doesn't matter whether you are a citizen of the Czech Republic, another EU country or a country outside the EU. Czech law sets no fixed minimum age, but a minor participant must be reasonably mature, both mentally and physically. We do not recommend registering children under 12 for a course this intensive.

Timing:

Class starts at 9:00 am. Please arrive at the venue no later than 8:30–8:45 am. The course usually ends around 6:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break during the day.

Venue:

We run our courses at various locations across the Czech Republic. You will find the exact venue for each date in the calendar, just click on the date. For multi-day courses that use more than one location, all venues are listed there.

Please check the venue carefully before booking. The same course often runs at different locations on different dates. Every now and then a student books a date expecting it to be at our home base, the Oleško shooting range, only to find out on the day that the course is taking place in Moravia, some 300 km away. To avoid this, always click on the date before booking and check where that particular date takes place.

Language:

Czech with English translation available.

Accommodation and Food:

Accommodation is not included in the course fee, each participant arranges and pays for it themselves. There is a 30-minute lunch break, so bring food that doesn't need cooking or ordering, such as an Adventure Menu type ration, an MRE or food from home, and enough to drink for the whole day.

Where to Go Next:

If you want to go deeper, continue with Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, which adds wound packing, a chest seal, casualty assessment using the primary survey algorithm, shock treatment and procedures for the individual phases of a response, or with its military counterpart Combat LifeSaver, with Care Under Fire. At FATALE you will learn to help even when you don't have professional equipment and have to improvise.
